International Scholarships to Study in Australia

A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further his or her education in some way.There are numerous scholarships in Australia that are offered by universities, colleges, governments, and private organisations and benefactors. Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, which usually reflect the values and purposes or the specific nature of the scholarship.

Government-funded Australian scholarships for international students

​Australia Awards Fellowships – Fellowships for international students to undertake short-term study and professional development programs at selected institutions and organizations in Australia. Only available to international organizations and professionals.
Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) – scholarships to study in Australia for students of all degree levels (bachelors, masters, PhD) hailing from selected countrieswithin Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
Australian Awards Leadership Program – supplementary to the above scholarship program, international postgraduate students applying to AAS will automatically be considered for the leadership program.
Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarships for International Students – a range of merit-basedinternational scholarships to study in Australia. Funded by the Australian government and available to postgraduate students from Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) – postgraduate-level Australian scholarships for international students from all regions (excluding New Zealand) to study towards a research degree at a participating Australian university.

​Other Australian scholarships for international students

ARSA Travel Scholarships for Commonwealth Citizens – scholarships to study in Australia for international students from the Commonwealth enrolled on a graduate research degree in another country. The purpose of this scholarship is for researchers to visit Australia to consult leading scholars – not for extended study in Australia.Flowers Across Melbourne Scholarship – scholarship funded by a Melbourne florist open to design, technology and agriculture students to gain US$500 to cover university costs.
International Water Centre Scholarships for International Students – Australian scholarships for international students undertaking the Masters in Integrated Water Management program at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

International Scholarships to Study in Russia

Government-funded Russian scholarships for international students
  • Government of Russian Federation Scholarships – A set number of state scholarships to study in Russia are available for foreign students each year, covering tuition fees, accommodation and medical insurance. These payments are currently RUB 75,000 (~US$1,200) per month, and do not cover travel or personal expenses.
Non-governmental Russian scholarships for international students
  • The School of Russian and Asian Studies (SRAS) – Lists scholarships to study abroad in Russia and other former Soviet states, most of which are specifically for US students.
  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships – Offers over 2,700 scholarships of US$3,000-4000 for US undergraduate citizens to study or intern abroad. Applicants who are studying a foreign language (such as Russian) while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken will automatically be considered for the Critical Need Language Award, for a total award of $8,000.
University-specific Russian scholarships for international students
Please note that the majority of these scholarships are at postgraduate level.
  • Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University – Individual scholarship opportunities are available for master's degree programs studied in English at the university. The scholarship could cover tuition fees during one semester or costs of accommodation in the university dormitory.
  • Tomsk State University – Various grants are available for international students.
  • Vladivostok State University Economics and Service (VSUES) – Four VSUES scholarships are available which offer RUB 3,000 per month (~US$50) for outstanding international students.
  • Ural Federal University (UrFU) – The UrFU “Golden” Scholarship Program for Master Students offers 65 international scholarships for new international students, covering tuition fees for two years of study for any master’s program taught in English. The UrFU “Silver” International Scholarship Program offers 50 scholarships to cover the tuition fees for one year of study.

  • National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, PhD Resource-Efficiency Fellowships – The International P.L.U.S scholarship is open for international PhD students for a traineeship lasting four weeks to a semester. The language of study is English or Russian. This is a full-funding grant that covers tuition fees, return ticket and living expenses (RUB 15,000, ~US$240 per month). The PhD scholarship is for international master’s graduates who intend to research resource-efficient technologies. The language of instruction is Russian, and the scholarship covers tuition fees and living expenses.
  • Russian International Olympic University  – The Vladimir Potanin Foundation’s Olympic Scholarships Program offers scholarships to study a Master of Sports Administration program at the university, providing tuition, accommodation and a monthly stipend.
